Can the calculations be performed in any web browser?
|

Calculations can only be accessed in Internet Explorer with version 6 and above. The sections of the portal that do not need sign in for performing online calculations; however; can be seen in other browsers.

Can I sign in and access calculations from any computer?
|
|
|
|
Yes, this is possible at present. In future, however, one will be able to access the calculations only from a specific computer. User will be informed of this when this change is implemented and adequate time will be provided to the user for this purpose. This would involve downloading a program and installing it on user’s computer. User will sign in from his/her computer by using the program window.

Who can use the Online Calculations?
|
|
|
|
The calculations are useful for Chemical, Mechanical and Instrumentation engineers working in engineering, projects, operations, technical services, maintenance groups in Chemical, Petro-Chemical and Oil&Gas areas. In addition, the personnel in other related industries such as pharmaceuticals, dyes and intermediate and biochemical industry would also find these immensely useful.

How to subscribe to the Online Calculations on the portal?
|
|
|
|
One needs to register and then pay the subscription fees to be able to access the Online Calculations. Once the Registration Form, a link is sent on the e-mail address specified by the user in this form. User needs to authenticate the e-mail address by clicking on the link. This validates the user’s e-mail address in our records. User can then access the Demo Calculation section which also has several quick calculations. The detailed calculations in the Demo calculations section are meant to provide the user with an idea about the detail to which the concerned calculation can be performed. Use may not be able to perform the detailed calculations in this section as the input values that can be retrieved in the Demo section cannot be altered by the user. To be able to perform the calculations, user needs to pay the subscription fees from the several options available for this.

How do I make the payment?
|
|
|
|
Indian subscribers can pay by way of a cheque, demand draft or by bank to bank to transfer. For Indian subscribers, we will shortly introduce payment by debit card, credit cards and Netbanking. Overseas subscribers can make the subscription payment by using PayPal facility.

When can I perform Demo Calculations?
|
|
|
|
After completing the Registration Form for Engineering Calculations, you will receive an e-mail on your e-mail address that was entered while completing the Registration Form. This e-mail will have a link provided in it. You need to click this link to validate your e-mail address. Allow a few minutes time once this is done. After signing in with your User Name (Registered e-mail address) and Password, you will be able to perform Demo Calculations.

What are the limitations of Demo Calculations?
|
|
|
|
There are a few quick calculations such as unit conversions and partial volume estimation in Demo Calculations list that can be performed free of cost. There are other detailed calculations, which cannot however be performed until you pay the subscription amount. However, in order to let you know the extent to such calculations can be performed, the concerned calculations can be opened. There is a fixed set of input values assigned to these calculations. These input values can be retrieved (by pressing ‘Retrieve’ button) and results calculated (‘Calculate’ button). Several Demo calculations may have various drop-down menus for particular selection of certain variables. There would be guidance provided on such calculation page as to which variable should be selected to be able to carry out the concerned Demo Calculation. If a different variable is selected, the results might be incorrect.

What are the user-friendly features of the calculations?
|
|
|
|
While performing the actual calculation, paid subscribers can save the input values. If the user wants to have a relook at the previously completed calculation or wants to modify the calculation itself at a later time, he/she will be able to retrieve this saved data so that it need not be entered all over again. The input can be saved on users’ computer itself so that user can save inputs for various other cases also. Upon completion of the calculation, user can print the results.

How do I preserve the calculations results?
|
|
|
|
The calculation page (only the calculation part) can be printed off by using the printer installed on user’s computer. The results can also be converted into a .pdf document by using a .pdf printer. We intend to provide capability to export the page into a spreadsheet format; but this may take some time.

How does one keep track of revisions of the calculations?
|
|
|
|
Each calculation has provision to record the 3-tier QA details such as ‘Made by’, ‘Checked by’ and ‘Approved by’. The print out of the calculation page can be used for preserving the check prints used during calculation checking and approval. The results of the calculations performed form the portal can be used to carry out other related calculations.
